Practical tense map

• Simple: routine/fact (I play)
• Continuous: action in progress (I am playing)
• Perfect: completed with relevance (I have played)
• Perfect continuous: duration up to a point (I have been playing)

Agreement rules that matter in exams

• Singular subject takes singular verb.
• Collective nouns can be singular depending on meaning.
• Either/Neither/Each/Every usually take singular verb.
• With along with, as well as, verb agrees with first subject.

Wrong: Each of the players are ready.
Correct: Each of the players is ready.

Why: Each is singular.
