Reading Comprehension questions check whether you can understand a passage quickly and correctly, not whether you know difficult English words.
Smart method (3-pass approach)
- Pass 1 - Skim the passage in 45-60 seconds.
- Pass 2 - Read questions and underline key words (who, why, tone, purpose, except, not true).
- Pass 3 - Re-read target lines and answer from evidence.
Core concepts
- Main idea: the central message of the full paragraph/passage.
- Inference: what is implied but not directly stated.
- Tone: author attitude (critical, optimistic, neutral, persuasive).
- Vocabulary in context: meaning of a word based on nearby lines.
Common mistakes
- Choosing answer from memory of topic, not passage evidence.
- Overthinking vocabulary and ignoring context clues.
- Reading all options before understanding the question.
Quick example
If a question asks: "The author implies that technology in classrooms should..."
Do not use your personal opinion. Find the exact lines where classroom technology is discussed and pick the option closest to those lines.
